Burn Care Nurses

Well this one should be interesting. I chose burn care nurses because one, I've never heard of this kind of nurse. And two, it sounds interesting and complicated.
Burn care nurses basically treat patients who have been burnt by not just hot water but by oil, chemicals, and even electricity. They normally work in care units, intensive care units, and trauma centers. Burn care nurses don't just treat and tend to the patients but they have to deal with a psychological and emotional burns that the aftermath may have caused.

These nurses must also educate families of burn
victims on the treatment of burns. But education is not only limited to after a casualty. Burn Nurses must train children and adults on burn prevention as well.

THINGS YOU'LL DO:

  • Dress and care for patients' burns
  • Maintain patient comfort
  • Tend to patient emotional well-being
  • Educate families on wound care
  • Educate the community-at-large about burn prevention

JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Multifaceted
  • Patient-facing

Salary: $52,416-$75,584

It is a high demand job and it is very difficult. To become this nurse you must have your ASN or BSN.

So enough of that, my internship went smoothly today. I forced myself to join whatever she was doing and yes it is awkward but I learned a few new things. I learned how to use the strep throat detector. We had the swabs that we just used on one of the children and we put it in a substance inside a tube for 2 minutes EXACT. Then I removed the swab and inserted the strip inside the tube with the liquid substance. It looks and acts like a pregnancy test however it's made out of paper. If the strip has one red line, that means it's negative. If it has 1 red line and 1 blue line, it's positive. Luckily the little girl was negative, however she might have pharyngitis (Inflammation of the tonsil which causes sore throats.) So in conclusion it wasn't too bad. I just have to put myself out there more often.
